Ms Lawless’ 5th Class – World War 1

“Lest we forget”

There was great excitement over the month of October, when children were asked to create war trenches and projects based on their study of World War I.

So many of the children made an amazing effort.
Well done 5th Class!

Ms Lawless’ 5th Class – Maths Week 2019

5th Class had fun for Maths week. They planned and designed over the course of the week their very own maths games. So many of the children had put in such an amazing effort and gone above and beyond the guidelines.

The children also did a little coding and completed maths challenges online. Finally on Friday, 5th class had the chance to present and play their maths games with each other. They also explored the school grounds with a Maths trail.

Ms Lawless’ 5th Class – The Suffragettes

Recently, 5th class explored the history of the Suffragettes. We learned so many interesting facts. Particularly, we explored the role of Emmeline Pankhurst in making the right to vote for women a key human rights achievement for the 20th Century.

Overall, we definitely have a lot to be thankful for when we look at how society has changed for the better since the right for women to vote was passed in 1928.

Please take a look at the research we undertook for our reports about the Suffragette movement.

Ms Lawless’ 5th Class – The Antics of the Aztecs!

In September for History we learned about the antics of the ancient Aztecs. The Aztecs were a people that lived in what we now know as the country of Mexico. We learned lots of interesting facts about this ancient society and their traditions, such as the Aztec’s main sport was Ullamaliztli, a ball game. Also, we found out that our favourite treat, chocolate, was first made by the Aztecs!

Without a doubt the most famous information we learned about the Aztecs related to their belief of many gods. For instance, Huitzilopochtli was the head of the gods, as he was the god of war and the sun.

Finally, to show how much we learned about the Aztecs we worked in groups to research and create group posters. Take a look at our posters and artwork below.

Georgian and Victorian Architecture in History 2019

We learnt about Georgian and Victorian architecture in History. The children designed and constructed their own Georgian and Victorian homes using a variety of recycled and art materials. They worked in pairs and the results were fantastic.
